McGrath, Benson, and Bennett on Thursday, July 10, at Ballard Park in Newport, 6:30 till a little past too dark. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket and your own refreshments, and mosquito repellent. A flashlight might be good, too.

McGrath, Benson, and Bennett on Sunday, July 27th, 3 to 6 PM, at King Park in Newport, as part of the Newport Independent Music Festival.

Jim McGrath solo on Thursday, July 31, at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, in (naturally) New Bedford, Mass., 6:30 pm.

Look for us at the Seafood Festival on Bowen's Wharf. We'll kick it off on Saturday, October 18th, at 11 AM.

How about this! We're on Youtube! Jim Bennett and the rest singing "Waltzing with Bears" at Mahogany Shoals in 2007. It starts in the middle, but what the heck. Video'd by Peter Voskamp, without whose encouragement and active assistance the "Whiskey Johnny" CD would not exist. Thanks Peter! (That's Uncle Walter on the far right.)

Alert! Alert! Jim McGrath's new CD, Red Right Returning, is officially released!

Press! Marilyn Bellemore in Newport This Week.

Jim's new website is up! Not much there yet, but give it time.

Every Thursday without fail, the world's wackiest open mike session, hosted by Jim McGrath, at Billy Goode's Bar and Restaurant (great fish and chips! and the fried squid [calimari? if you must] are awfully nice, too), 23 Marlborough St., Newport, RI. 401-848-5013. Here is a map, which has both name and address wrong, yet close enough.

Here's what Greg Elias of the Newport Mercury wrote about his visit to Billy's.

And here is what Marilyn Bellemore of Newport This Week had to say about her experience there.

Marilyn also wrote a very nice piece about fiddler Fud Benson's family business, the John Stevens Shop, which celebrated its 300th anniversary in 2005.

Block Island mystery manuscript.

The best of intentions, they never go far
after thirty-two days at the door of a bar

One Pelham East in Newport, back in 1977.

Left to right, Jim McGrath, Jim Bennett, Fud Benson, Walter McDonough, in a fine photo by Richard Benson

The ship reflected in the window is

HMS.

Look for Rose in the film Master and Commander: Far Side of the World. She has the starring role. Aside from Russell Crowe.

Even if Rose were to tie up again at Scott's Wharf, this photo could not be duplicated because there are buildings in the way.

About thirty years later (2005, to be exact).

Same four, different door.

On the porch of the Hygeia House, Block Island.

Here's one more picture,

I'll sing you a song, a good song of the sea

And now for something completely different ...

A manuscript left on the piano at the Mahogany Shoals bar at Payne's Dock after the 2004 Block Island shows. No idea who wrote it. Warning: this is a big graphic, about 360 Kbytes, so if you're on dialup, go fix a cuppa tea, or something, while it's loading.
